Bulldogs fall to Lady Rebels on NYE

LAS VEGAS - Fresno State women's basketball drops their first road match of league play against UNLV on Wednesday afternoon at The Pavilion, 85-59.
Jaisa Gamble put forth a strong showing with a team high 13 points going 6-of-12 from the field along with a deep three. Djessira Diawara showed up for her first double-figure game as a Bulldog, locking in 11 points - all scored in the second half.
How it happened
Jaisa Gamble hit the net first for the Bulldogs to start the afternoon, Danae Powell logged the next four points after a 2-of-2 trip at the line and a coast to coast layup. Emilia Long continued to keep it close with a layup, 10-8. Ava Marr seized the 'Dogs their first lead of the game on a shot from beyond the arc, 12-10. UNLV evened out the score until Powell hit a second chance jumper at the buzzer to close out the first ten on top, 14-12.
Hedda Koehne knotted it up with a set of back-to-back layups, 18-18. UNLV went ahead on a 8-0 run, holding the Bulldogs scoreless until Gamble got her hands back on the ball for two more baskets, 30-22. Fresno State's final points of the first half came from the charity line at the hands of Marr (2-2) and Powell (1-1).
Fresno State opened the second half with a 3-0 spurt. Long hit a layup on the first possession followed by Powell at the line (2-2). Koehne snapped the Lady Rebels' double-digit run with a layup from inside the paint. Djessira Diawara got herself on the board with back-to-back shots from inside the paint. Indiya Clarke got the final shot off in the last ten seconds of the third quarter, 63-43. Fresno State collected eight points in the final two minutes from Clarke and Diawara.
The final period remained tightly contested on both ends of the court, UNLV narrowly managed to outscore Fresno State, 22-16. Gamble and Clarke opened the period with a 4-0, looking to set the tone. Two other 'Dogs managed to reach the basket with Diawara logging another five points and Long on four points. Gamble hit the teams second three-point of the night mid-way through. The final two minutes saw a 8-4 run that favored UNLV and called game, 85-59.
