Story Tweedie-Yates is in her first season as the Fresno State women's tennis assistant coach. The Bulldogs added a proven winner with a plethora of practical knowledge when she joined the coaching staff for the 2009-10 season.
As a senior at Texas Christian, Tweedie-Yates earned All-American honors in singles and doubles. She ended the season ranked No. 11 in the country and was named Conference-USA Player of the Year. That year the Horned Frogs won the Conference-USA Championship and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Before transferring to TCU, Tweedie-Yates spent her first three collegiate seasons at Stanford and was a part of the 2001-02 and 2003-04 NCAA Championship teams.
She was named an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American her senior season at TCU and will help Fresno State build upon their tradition of success in the classroom, as well as on the court.
Most recently she spent four years as a professionally on the WTA tour. She traveled to numerous countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia for the tour, picking up 143 singles and 159 doubles victories during that span. She was ranked as high as a No. 189 in doubles and in No. 316 singles.
"We are extremely pleased to have Story joining our staff," Fresno State head coach Simon Thibodeau said. "She is a natural leader, teacher and one of the hardest worker I have met. Having won a couple national team championships at Stanford and several WTA titles, she will really help in guiding our Bulldogs to the highest expectations."
Tweedie-Yates provided private instruction to elite junior players in a Seattle-based club. She also served as a student assistant for both the men's and women's tennis teams at TCU during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.
During her high school years at the Overlake School in Redmond, Wash., Tweedie-Yates competed in soccer, lacrosse and tennis, but excelled in tennis, winning state her senior year.
