David Mullins Gets Birth in Qualifying Round of ITA All-American
David Mullins, ranked No. 98 in the nation, was invited to play in the most participated collegiate grand slam tournament of the season Oct. 11-16. A total of 350 players from around the country descended on Austin, Texas, to open the qualifying round of the ITA All-American Tennis Tournament. Mullins lost in the first round of qualifying to Lance Mills of Nebraska 6-2, 6-3.
Mullins is expected to participate in the Region VII Championships in Seattle, Wash, Nov. 6-9.
Peter Luczak and Olivier Le Jeune Open-Up Play at the ITA All-American
Two of the top ranked men?s tennis players, No. 19 Peter Luczak and No. 32 Olivier Le Jeune, got mixed results in the ITA All-American Tournament. Luczak, the No. 9 seeded player in the tournament, defeated Andres Pedroso of Duke in the first round 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Le Jeune, however, was not as fortunate, losing his first round match in straight sets to Tennessee?s Adam Carey 6-2, 6-3.
Luczak's stay in the tournament went no further, however. He fell in the second round to Alex Kim of Stanford 7-5, 7-6 (4). Le Jeune opened his consolation play by defeating Mississippi?s Martin Selin 7-6 (3), 6-1. He came back Saturday to defeat Chris Sands of UCLA 7-5, 6-2, but ended his run through the consolation bracket with a loss to Justin O?Neal of Florida 6-4, 6-1.
Both players will return to play on November 6-9 when they participate in the Region VII Championships in Seattle, Wash.
