Golf Team Loses Heartbreaker to BYU

FRESNO, Calif. - Top-seeded BYU defeated second-seeded Fresno State to win the Pacific Match Play Tournament at Copperopolis, Calif.
The Cougars and Bulldogs actually ended the match tied 2.5-2.5, but after going through a tiebreaker process, BYU was declared the winner by virtue of the Cougars' No. 3 player winning more holes.
Ryan King (Sr., Oceanside, Calif.) and Josh Watney (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) were winners for Fresno State on the day. King defeated Scott Miller 3 and 2 while Watney took out Todd Miller 2 and 1. Danny Paniccia (Sr., Fresno, Calif.) halved his matched with Aaron Miller for the Bulldogs' other tally.
The Pacific Match Play Tournament is the only NCAA golf tournament to utilize the match play format. All other tournaments use team scores to determine winners.
Fresno State will take three months off before its next action. The Bulldogs will return to the links Feb. 17-19 for the Taylor Made Invitational in Honolulu.
