Fresno, Calif. - Casey Rowe pitched Fresno State's second-straight complete game as the Bulldogs defeated San Jose State 11-5 at Beiden Field. The victory gives Fresno State four-straight wins and ups its record to 23-25 overall and 6-11 in the Western Athletic Conference.
For the second straight night the Spartans started the game off by scoring in the top of the first inning, but just like Friday's game, the Bulldogs answered with four runs in their half of the inning.
With one out second baseman Tom Creighton singled, then moved over to second when leftfielder Anthony Acevedo was hit by a pitch. On the next play first baseman Brandon Gemoll's ground ball when threw the legs of San Jose State second baseman Gary Patchett, allowing Creighton to score and moving Acevedo to third.
Third baseman Nick Garcia, who lead the way for the Bulldogs going 4-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored, singled to drive in Acevedo. Designated hitter Jeff Prieto would clear the bases with a two run double to left field.
The Spartans picked up another run in the top of the second, but Fresno State answered their call by putting four more runs up on the board. The inning was highlighted by Garcia's three-run home run to left field.
Although San Jose State would put runners on base, Rowe was able to work out of the tight spots and keep the Spartans from having any big innings. San Jose did its damage in the fourth inning when it scored two runs but once again the Bulldogs match it when two runs of their own.
The two teams will finish out the series on Sunday at Beiden Field starting at 1 p.m.
