HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning as Sky Collins led off with a single before Owen Faust brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Mikey Boyd later added an RBI single to give Fresno State a 2-0 advantage.
San Jose State quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from Peyton Rowles and Jake McCoy and an RBI single from Rohne Klein.
Fresno State trimmed the deficit to 3-3 after Brady Hewitt scored on a wild pitch in the third inning, but the Spartans regained control with solo home runs from JC Osorio-Agard and Klein later in the frame.
The Bulldogs answered again in the fifth when Collins launched a two-run homer to left field, scoring Ethan Payne and cutting the San Jose State lead to 5-5. Collins finished the night 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
The Spartans broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth with four runs. McCoy led off the inning with a solo homer before Osorio-Agard doubled home another run. Later in the inning, Rocco Caballero delivered a two-run single up the middle to extend the lead to 9-5.
San Jose State added three more insurance runs in the eighth inning to seal the win.
Fresno State collected eight hits in the loss, including a double from Jett Ruby and multi-hit performances from Collins and Payne. Boyd also drove in a run and scored once.
Erik Rico took the loss for Fresno State after allowing eight runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings. Douglas Crystal tossed the final 3.2 innings in relief.
