Baseball Teams Drops 7-6 Decision to TCU

Fresno, Calif. - Despite getting home runs from leftfielder Anthony Acevedo and third baseman Nick Garcia, the Bulldogs could not battle back from two home runs by TCU's Shaun Wooley in the fourth and fifth innings as the Bulldogs fell, 6-7. Fresno State's record falls to 8-11 and 1-3 in the Western Athletic Conference, while TCU improves to 10-9 and 4-1. The two teams will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m at Beiden Field in the third game of three-game series.
The Bulldogs took the lead in the first inning with a pair of runs coming off the bat of Acevedo as his shot cleared the fence in the center field to make the score 2-0. Acevedo drove in centerfielder Tony Guzman who reached on an error.
TCU would get a run off Frenso State starter Ozzie Gonzalez in the second inning, but the Bulldogs would come back with two more runs in the bottom of the third.
After designated hitter Beau Hintz lined out, Acevedo picked up his second extra-base hit of the night, a double to left field, then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Acevedo when 2-2 on the night with two runs scored, two RBIs and two walks.
The next batter after Acevedo, first baseman Brandon Gemoll reached on an error, then moved to second when catcher Anthony Simioli was walked. Both Acevedo and Gemoll scored on a double by second baseman Jeff Preito.
The Horned Frogs would do their damage in the fourth and fifth innings Wooly would hit a two-run home run off both Gonzalez and reliever Shawn Hannah. Hannah would end up taking the loss, while TCU's Scott Atchison got the win.
Fresno State would pull to within a run in the bottom of the eighth on Garcia's first home run of the season, but the Frogs would push the lead back to two with a run in the top of the ninth. The Bulldogs would score one run in the ninth, but left the tying run 90 feet away when the third out was recorded.
