Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team used four runs in the second and sixth innings and a complete game from pitcher Nick Moran to defeat the Portland Pilots. The Bulldogs will take on North Carolina, who moved up to No. 4 in the Baseball America rankings, at 7 p.m. on Friday during the fifth day of the Pesi-Johnny Quik Classic.
Fresno State got the scoring started in the top of the first, the Bulldogs were the visiting team for the contest, with a run an RBI single by leftfielder Anthony Acevedo. The junior from Bakersfield went 3-5 with two runs and three RBIS.
In the second the Bulldogs would pull away from the Pilots with four runs from four straight singles. After getting a run in the fourth inning, Fresno State tacked on four more runs as the Portland pitchers walked four batters and hit two more.
Portland would picked up two runs off Moran in the seventh inning, but the freshman cruised through most of the evening. Moran gave up three runs on nine hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
The win ups Fresno State's record to 11-14 overall and 2-1 in the PJQ Classic. The pairings for Friday's action are as follows:
