Men's Tennis Defeats BYU For Eighth Consecutive Win

Salt Lake City, Utah - The 33rd-ranked Fresno State men's tennis team extended its win streak to eight matches today with a 7-0 victory over 45th-ranked BYU at the BYU Indoor Tennis Facility in Provo, Utah. The Bulldogs improved their record to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.
Fresno State jumped out to an early lead after securing the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Sophomores Peter Luczak and David Mullins battled to a 9-8 victory over Jeff Harbach and Gert Vilms of BYU, 9-8, at No. 2 while freshman Nick Fustar and junior Olivier Le Jeune cruised to an 8-3 win over BYUs Nic Losee and Benji Rideout, 8-3, at No. 3.
In singles, the Bulldogs swept the Cougars behind Mullins' twelfth consecutive singles victory, improving his record to 23-5 this season. Mullins was victorious over Losee, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4. Luczak, ranked 63rd in the nation, and Le Jeune, ranked 69th, also earned their 23rd victories of the year with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the lineup. Luczak (23-10) defeated 80th-ranked Manuel Calvo of BYU, 7-6, 6-7, 7-5, at No.1 and Le Jeune (23-5) beat Vilms, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 2.
Fresno State will face the University of Utah tomorrow in Salt Lake City.
