Honolulu - Fresno State mounted a serious rally with five runs in the seventh inning, but eventually fell to Northwestern 13-10 in the 24th Rainbow Easter Baseball Tournament. The Bulldogs fell to 14-20 on the season, just the day after breaking Hawai'i-Pacific's 17-game winning streak. Down by seven runs going into the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs knocked in five runs. Leftfielder Anthony Acevedo went 3-5 with designated hitter Jeff Prieto driving in three runs. Shortstop Jason Fanconi had two RBIs off his single. Both leadoff man Tom Creighton and first baseman Tom Brandon Gemoll had two hits and an RBI in the game.
Fresno State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first before Casey Rowe gave up six earned runs in three and 2/3 innings, giving the Wildcats a 9-4 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. Fresno State responded with one run and then did not score again until its five-run seventh inning. Northwestern, totaling 12 hits to Fresno State's 14, added one run in the sixth and scored twice in the seventh with its final run coming in the ninth.
The Bulldogs continue play in the Easter Rainbow Classic Friday.
