Only two Bulldogs have been accepted to participate at this years NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., this Friday and Saturday.
Defending national champion Melissa Price (Kingsburg, Calif.) is the top slated female competitor in the pole vault competition. She cleared her season best mark of 13-5 at the National Pole Vault Summit earlier in the year in Reno, Nev. That mark leads the nation among college competitors. Her personal best is 13-10 which she cleared last year when she clinched the first-ever NCAA womens pole vault championship. Price is coming off her third straight WAC championship.
Junior and two-time WAC champion Jim Davis (Godley, Texas) will also be making the trip this weekend. He cleared his personal best of 17-8 1/2 at the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nev., in January. It is the eighth best mark in the nation this collegiate year. He recently won the WAC Indoor Championships two weekends ago after winning last years outdoor conference championship.
Two-time All-American E.J. Jackson (Modesto, Calif.) was not accepted into the 60 meter race. The sprinter finished sixth in the 55 meters at last years NCAA Indoor Championships when he earned his first All-America honor. Jackson recently ran a personal best (non-adjusted) time of 6.69 at the LSU NCAA Qualifier Meet in New Orleans, La., last Friday. Unlike years of the past, the NCAA only accepted 16 sprinters into the race; they have usually accepted anywhere from 18-20. Jackson would have been next on the list.
The NCAA Indoor Championships begin this Friday. Results will be faxed as soon as possible.
