FRESNO, Calif. - Senior Jim Davis placed sixth in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships Thursday. Davis, a three-time WAC outdoor champion, also placed sixth last season at the nationals. He cleared 17-8 1/2 (5.40m) for the sixth place finish, four inches higher than last year's NCAA performance.
Davis earns All-America honors for the second consecutive season for finishing in the top six at NCAAs. Davis first cleared a personal-best height of 18-2 1/2 at the Modesto Relays before breaking the WAC and school record with a height of 19-0 1/4 at the WAC Championships. He still owns the best mark in collegiate competition this season. Davis has also qualified to compete at the Olympic trials in July.
Senior Scott Wenholz will begin the decathlon today and conclude the competition tomorrow.
