Easter Decathlon Begins Tuesday
The annual Fresno State Easter Decathlon/Heptathlon begins on Tues., April 18 at 2:30 p.m. and concludes on Wed., April 19 at Warmerdam Field. Although the event will be small in terms of participants, many Bulldogs will get the opportunity to participate in 10 events in two days. Senior Scott Wenholz (Gilroy, Calif.), junior Donnell Wickett (Ventura, Calif.) and sophomore Justin Schwartz (Lodi, Calif.) will participate.
Bulldogs Head To Texas
The men's track and field team will compete at the University of Texas for the 2000 USTCA National Invitational Team Championship. The first-ever invitational of this kind is a unique two-day, scored meet featuring 15 of the top men's track and field programs in the country. The meet pits the nation's most talented all-around teams against one another in regular-season, head-to-head scored competition in what will surely serve as an exciting preview to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June. Hosted in conjuction with the United States Track and Field Coaches Association, the meet kicks off Friday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m. and continues Saturday, Aprill 22, at 1:00 p.m. Friday's session consists primarily of heats, while Saturday's competition is all finals. Some notable schools participating in the event include Florida, USC, LSU, Tennessee, UCLA, Texas, South Carolina and UTEP.
Men Improve at Woody Wilson Relays
Although the Bulldogs did not participate in the team competition at the Woody Wilson Relays in Davis, Calif. on Saturday, there were many strong performances. Junior Ron Fox (Spring Valley, Calif.) and freshman Darnell Hammock (Oakland, Calif.) placed third in the third and fourth respectively in the 100 meters. Fox also ran in the 200 meters, taking first place with a time of 22.20. Freshman Aaron Vasquez (Selma, Calif.) finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 48.62. Sophomore Philip Ogilvie (Clarksburg, Calif.) finished first in the 1,500 meters with a personal-best 3:51.87. Ogilvie also beat his brother David of UC Davis who finished third. Junior Patrick Hogan (Modesto, Calif.) finished 10th in the 1,500 meters with a season-best 3:57.66. Senior Tim Padilla (Coarsegold, Calif.) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a season-best mark of 9:27.32. Freshman Moses Avila (Reedley, Calif.) set a personal record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.74.

Junior Tamisha Allen (Salinas, Calif.), sophomores Rachel Bauer (Clovis, Calif.), Dyoni Cole (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jaime Thompson (Clovis, Calif.) and freshman Dallas Neumann (Springville, Calif.) will compete in preparation for possible participation at the WAC Championships.

Women Improve at Woody Wilson Relays

Bauer took third and ran a personal-best 1:01.45 in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles, a time that ranks fifth on Fresno State's all-time list. Freshman Sandi Russler (Fresno, Calif.) improved her personal record in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:50.66 and a seventh place finish. Sophomore Argentina Banuelos (Woodlake, Calif.) continues her steady improvement. She knocked down personal-bests in the 3,000 meter run (11:36.70) and the 5,000 meter run (20:19.24). Freshman Mandy Hollister (Turlock, Calif.) finished fifth in the 400 meter intermediate hurdles with a new personal record of 1:02.98. Nuemann improved her season-best mark in the pole vault with a mark of 9-2 1/4. Junior Rickisha Herron (North Hills, Calif.) finished second in the triple jump and improved her season-best mark with a leap of 38-2 1/4.
