Vieira and Fustar Advance to Second Round of Doubles Play

Fresno, Calif. - Sophomore Kevin Vieira (Turlock, Calif.) and freshman Nick Fustar (Cupertino, Calif.) advanced to the second round of the doubles main draw at the Jerrys Desert Classic at the Palm Valley Racquet Club in Palm Springs, Calif. today.
The duo defeated Mike Huss and Alex Brown of Arizona, 8-3 to advance. Fustar and Vieira will face Golen Sasson and Juan Cerda of College of the Desert tomorrow.
Senior Rob Cheyne (Wellington, New Zealand) and sophomore Joseph Gilbert (Fullerton, Calif.) were defeated in their first round doubles match by Alex Waske and Nguey Lay of San Diego State, 8-4.
In singles, the Bulldogs were unable to capture a first round victory.
Cheyne, the tournaments fourth-seed and 60th-ranked player in the nation, fell to Kolo Rosenthal of San Diego State, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Vieira was defeated by Nguey Lay of San Diego State, 6-3, 6-4.
After winning two matches yesterday to qualify for the main draw, Fustar lost to third-seed Kelly Gullett of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-2.
Cheyne, Vieira and Fustar will play in the singles consolation round tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
