Womens Tennis Defeats No. 47 Boilermakers, 6-3

Fresno, Calif. - The 21st-ranked Fresno State womens tennis team defeated 47th-ranked Purdue, 6-3, today at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs received victories from seniors Dora Djilianova and Shana Peete, along with sophomore Liesl Fichtbauer at the top of the lineup to help build a 4-2 lead after singles. Djilianova, ranked tenth in the nation, defeated 59th-ranked Jennifer Embry of Purdue, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1, while Peete took care of Purdues Erika Quebe, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2. Fichtbauer, who gave Fresno State its fourth point after freshman Chantel Wiggins defeated Purdues Lynsey Fick at No. 6, was pushed to three sets before defeating Shannon Taheny of Purdue, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.
In doubles, Purdue cut the Bulldog lead to 4-3 with a victory by 46th-ranked Embry and Missy Wright over 25th-ranked Djilianova and Fichtbauer, 8-3, at No. 1. Fresno State then clinched the match with a victory by senior Terje Pallo and Wiggins at No. 3 over Purdues Lisa Walgenbach and Laura Avgerinos, 8-6.
With the win, Fresno State improves to 7-3 this season while Purdue falls to 4-6 overall. Fresno State will be at home on Thursday, March 18, at 11 a.m. versus UTEP.
