'Dogs Down San Diego State, 7-5

Fresno, Calif. - Freshman Zach Minor picked up his fourth win of the year against no losses as the Bulldogs defeated San Diego State today, 7-5 at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego. The win raises Fresno State's overall record to 27-26, 9-12 in the WAC.
The Bulldogs got on the board first as they ran out to a 6-0 lead. Joe Gerber led off the first inning with a double and scored on a grounder by Anthony Acevedo.
The 'Dogs big inning came in the second. Tony Guzman led things off with a triple, and following a walk by cather Brad Harper, scored on a single by Brandon Gemoll. Oscar Lopez singled to score Harper and advanced to second on the throw home. A sacrifice fly by Gerber scored Gemoll for the third run of the inning. The 'Dogs closed out the scoring when Tom Creighton singled to bring home Lopez.
After tacking on another run in the top of the 5th, things got tight as the Aztecs scored three runs off Minor in the bottom of the fifth and added one each in the sixth and seventh to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 6-5. Minor pitched six innings, giving up four runs on six hits, walking three and striking out two. Hans Smith came on in the seventh and earned his fifth save of the year, giving up just one run on two hits.
Fresno State will return home to Beiden Field to face BYU for a three-game series beginning Thursday at 7 p.m.
