Green Captializes on Speedy Field

Baltimore - The people of Baltimore were hit hard by the rains from Hurricane Dennis last week and were hit again, but this time with the speed of Reyna Green. Green recorded two assists en route to the Bulldogs' 2-0 victory over the Retrievers of UM-Baltimore Saturday night.
Playing on an Astroturf field, Green was able to use her speed to accelerate and pass defender after defender creating havoc on defense and opportunities for teammates on offense.
The first teammate to capitalize on a Green's set-up was Jill Pearson. At the 22:16 mark, Pearson netted a ball cross goal on a breakaway scoring opportunity set up by Green. With the Retrievers pushing their defenders up field, Green stole the ball and sent a lead to a streaking Pearson. Pearson simply out ran the UM-Baltimore defense and beat keeper Mandy Robbins for the game's first score.
The second goal created by Green came in the second half. But this time it was Morgan Oliveira who was at the right place at the right time. With Becky Hicock now in goal, the second-half Retriever keeper advanced the ball to a Green-covered defender. Green stole the ball and broke back setting up her own goal scoring opportunity, but the forward instead hit a breaking Oliveira on the left side who found open net doubling the Bulldog advantage.
Playing on Astroturf for the first time this season did not seem to bother the Bulldogs. The lone apparent wrinkle in the Fresno State attack came within the game's opening moments when Pearson was unable to net a ball off a failed clear by Robbins. Pearson's left foot snagged the carpet as the 'Dog attempted to side step the keeper.
"They adjusted really well to the field, considering most of them have never played on this type of surface," Reynaud said.
The Bulldogs continue their east coast road swing with their showdown with the Virginia Cavaliers Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
