Fresno State Tabbed For Third In WAC Preseason Poll

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference released its 2000 Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll Wednesday morning and Fresno State was tabbed to finish in third place.
The Bulldogs received 17 points out of a possible 25 points in the poll, as three coaches picked them to finish in second place and one coach each selected them to finish in third and fourth.
Fresno State returns 13 letterwinners, six position starters and four pitchers from last year?s squad that went 33-30 overall and 14-16 in the WAC en route to a seventh-place finish.
The Bulldogs are led by 1999 Honorable Mention All-America and All-WAC outfielder Anthony Acevedo and 1999 Freshman All-America and WAC Freshman of the Year second baseman Tom Creighton.
No. 7/14 (Collegiate Baseball/Baseball America) Rice was unanimously picked to win the WAC again this season. It marks the fourth consecutive season the Owls have been selected as the preseason favorite.
Fresno State opens the 2000 season against consensus preseason No. 1 Stanford with a three-game homestand beginning on Jan. 28.
