Fresno State Set to Start 2000 Season

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State opens its 2000 season this weekend at Pete Beiden Field with a three-game series against consensus preseason No. 1 Stanford. First pitch Friday night is schedule for 7 p.m., while first pitches Saturday and Sunday are set for 1 p.m.
Right-hander Tom Graham (Sr., Modesto, Calif.) is scheduled to get the nod on opening night. Graham led the Bulldogs in wins (8), games started (19), complete games (5), innings pitched (127.2) and strikeouts (109) as a junior. Shawn Hannah (Sr., Clovis, Calif.), a righty, will get the start on Saturday afternoon, while left-hander Beau Hintz (So., Stockton, Calif.) is scheduled to start the series finale Sunday.
The Cardinal will parade three potential right-handed All-Americans to the mound this weekend. Junior Jason Young, who led the nation in strikeouts last year, is scheduled to oppose Graham on Friday night. Justin Wayne, a junior, will start Saturday and sophomore Brian Sager scheduled to get the nod on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs return 13 letterwinners, six position starters and six pitchers from last year's squad that went 33-30 overall and 14-16 en route to a seventh-place finish in the WAC. The Bulldogs return Honorable Mention All-America outfielder Anthony Acevedo (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) and Freshman All-America second baseman Tom Creighton (So., Weldon, Calif.).
Stanford was 50-15-1 last season, won the Pacific-10 conference with a 19-5 record and finished in third place at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
