Blue Dogs Win Baseball World Series

FRESNO, Calif. - The Blue dogs won game five of the Inaugural Blue/Gray world Series held at Pete Beiden Field 10-3. Once again the Blue dogs scored early and often with one run in the first inning and four in the second giving them a five nothing lead at the end of two. In the sixth inning the Gray Dogs mounted a comeback by scoring three runs at the end of six they trailed by only three runs. The Blue Dogs in the eighth scored four insurance runs for the final score of 10-3.
The Blue Dogs got on the board first when second baseman Tom Creighton (Weldon, Calif.) hit a home run over the right field wall. In the second, The Blue Dogs extended their lead by scoring four runs on four hits. Designated hitter Jeff Prieto (Clovis, Calif.) hit a single to bring Dave Hafiz (Woodbury, Minn.) home from second. The following batter, Tom Creighton hit a single to bring Oscar Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) home from second. The next batter, Toby Riday-White (Berkeley, Calif.) drilled a double into left center giving Prieto the opportunity to score from third and Creighton hustled from second to score. At the end of two innings the Blue Dogs led the Gray Dogs 5-0. The Blue Dogs pitching received a stellar performance from their starting pitcher Nick Moran(Elk Grove, Calif.).Moran pitched a no-hitter until the fifth inning. He faced 15 batters and struck out five while allowing only one batter to reach base on a walk. To start the sixth inning, Moran was replaced by Jeff Kaita (Applegate, Calif.).
The Gray Dogs mounted their comeback in the sixth by scoring three runs. Gray Dogs shortstop Josh Labandeira (Porterville, Calif.) hit a single to bring Casey McGehee (Aptos, Calif.) home from third base. The following batter, Kirk Nylander (Spring Creek, Nev.) hit a single to bring Scott Beshears (Fresno, Calif.) home. The next batter, Jared Walker (Gardenerville, Calif.) hit another single to send Chris Patrick (Fresno, Calif.) home from third. The Gray Dogs scored three in the sixth to get within three runs of the Blue Dogs who were leading 6-3.
In the eighth inning, the Blue Dogs scored three runs for insurance. Matt Creighton (Weldon, Calif.) hit a double to bring home Lopez and Prieto. A few batters later, Simon Tafoya (Pittsburg, Calif.) came to bat and hit a double to score the Creighton brothers. The Gray Dogs could not produce any more runs in the final two innings of the game the Blue Dogs won by a final score of 10-3.
