Men's Tennis Fall Season Ends At ITA Regionals

FRESNO, Calif. - The fall tournament season for the Fresno State men's tennis team came to a close Tuesday night when all entrants were eliminated from the ITA Regional Championships in Berkeley.
Junior Nick Fustar's impressive singles run ended with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to No. 13 seed Adrian Barnes of California. Barnes then defeated No. 2 seed J.P. Fruttero of California 6-2, 7-6 in the semifinal round. Fustar had previously dispatched of No. 4 seed David Martin of Stanford and Washington's Marius Lunde leading up to his quarterfinal match against Barnes.
In doubles action, Fustar and senior David Mullins defeated the No. 4 seeded team of Carter Morris and Ryan Haviland of Stanford 9-8 (6) in the quarterfinals. The Bulldog tandem then were outlasted by the No. 1 seeded duo of Barnes and Scott Kintz of California 9-8 (10-8), who advanced to play Stanford's Martin and Scott Lipsky in today's final.
Freshmen Alex Krohn and Alex Menichini were both already eliminated from the tournament. Krohn won his opening round match before dropping his second round contest against Balazs Veress of California. Menichini earned a first round bye and was then beaten by No. 7 seed Ali Ansari 8-4. The Bulldog netters teamed up to win their opening round doubles match before losing in the second round.
Senior transfer Sean Cooper did not play in the tournament as he is currently finishing his rehabilitation from a knee injury.
