Men's and Women's Tennis Earn Team Rankings

FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State's men's and women's tennis squads were awarded team rankings in the WingspanBank.com rankings released today. The national rankings are determined by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Ranking Committee and given to the top 75 men's and women's teams.
The men's team was ranked No. 21 and will open the dual match portion of their season at home against Cal Poly on Feb. 4. The Bulldogs finished last season at No. 15 (24-5 overall) and reached the second round of the NCAA Championships before falling to USC 4-1. The men competed in the Charles Fluitt Invitational, Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Tennis Classic and the ITA Northwest Regional Championships during the fall.
Stanford was the top-ranked men's team for the second consecutive year. Tennessee, UCLA, Duke, Texas A&M, TCU, Georgia, Illinois, Florida and Virginia Commonwealth rounded out the top 10. The Bulldogs will play both Stanford and Illinois this season.
The women's team was ranked No. 39 and will host Washington on Jan. 25 when they begin their spring season. The women finished last season ranked No. 37 (16-9 overall) before bowing to Stanford 5-1 in the second round of the NCAA Championships. The Bulldogs competed in the Saint Mary's Tournament, Riviera All-American Championships, Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Tennis Classic and the ITA Northwest Championships.
Stanford was ranked No. 1 among the women. The rest of the top 10 includes Georgia, Florida, Duke, California, Texas, Arizona State, Wake Forest, UCLA and Pepperdine. Fresno State will host California, and will travel to UCLA and Pepperdine in the spring.
