Gemoll Named WAC Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State first baseman Brandon Gemoll (So., San Jose, Calif.) was named WAC Player of the Week Monday morning for the second consecutive week.
Gemoll hit .667 (6-for-9) with a run scored, a walk and three RBIs in the doubleheader sweep of Santa Clara on Saturday. He also reached base at .700 clip and was flawless in the field, handling 19 chances (16 putouts and three assists) without an error.
Gemoll was 2-for-4 in Fresno State's 5-3 win in game one of the twinbill. In the nightcap, he was 4-for-5 with a walk, a run scored and three RBIs. It was the third time in the past five games Gemoll had registered four hits in a game, a career high.
Gemoll, who has hit safely in three consecutive games, leads the Bulldogs with a .552 (16-for-29) batting average. He also leads the squad in hits (16), multi-hit games (5), total bases (20), slugging percentage (.690), on-base percentage (.594) and is tied for the team lead with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Fresno State returns to action on Feb. 18-20, when it hosts Oregon State in a three-game series. First pitch Friday at Pete Beiden Field is slated for 7 p.m.
