FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 5 Fresno State Bulldogs fought off 40 mph winds during the first day of the Morris Williams Invitational at the Austin County Club in Austin, Texas to earn a solid first day two-round score of 596 tying Fresno State in third place with No. 16 New Mexico. No. 9 BYU leads team play with a two-round total of 886 followed by No. 7 Oklahoma State with a total of 594.
Bulldog Ryan King earned a third place individual ranking heading into the final round of competition with a score of 72-71--143. New Mexico's Joel Hendry leads the individual play earning a two-round total of 141. Andy Miller of BYU is in second place with 142.
Bulldog Todd Rose is in 19th with a score of 75-75--150. Danny Paniccia and Nick Watney tie for 30th both earning a 74-78--152 for the day. Josh Watney ties for 37th with a score of 74-79--153 and Mike Louden is in 51st with a two-round total of 156.
"It was miserable out there. We played against 40 mph gusting winds," head coach Mike Watney said. "Our scores went up as the winds intensified, we were eight strokes ahead in the afternoon but we didn't hurt ourselves. The guys are exhausted after having to work ten-times harder to calculate the winds. Tomorrow the winds should be better and we should be in the top three or four finishers."
