Acevedo A Finalist For Postgraduate Scholarship

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State outfielder Anthony Acevedo (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) was among 11 finalists selected for the inaugural John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship announced Tuesday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Acevedo currently maintains a 3.60 grade-point average (GPA) in kinesiology. He was a 1999 WAC Scholar-Athlete and Fresno State Torch of Excellence honoree. Acevedo also was named to the Fresno State Dean's List in Fall 1998.
The 11 finalists will be reviewed by the Blue Ribbon Committee and five finalists will be selected to receive the $10,000 grant to be used toward postgraduate studies. Sears will present the five winners their award at the NACDA Scholarship Awards Luncheon on June 13 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Senior minorities who intend to pursue a postgraduate degree in athletics administration are eligible for the scholarships. Student-athletes are required to maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate leadership qualities on an institutional and/or community level.
Funding for the scholarships has been provided by Adidas America, the American Football Coaches Association, the Eddie Robinson Football Classic, Host Communications, Sears and the NADCA.
