Pacific Notes
FIRST EVER APPEARANCE IN NCAA's
In finishing the season with a 13-8 record and a semifinal appearance in the Big West Conference tournament, Pacific was rewarded with the program's first-ever berth into the NCAA championships. The Tigers are a 33-48 seed in the tournament and will play 17-32 seed USC in the first round. Pacific has never defeated the Trojans in six tries, although the two teams haven't met in over 30 years.
GUILLOTEAU LEADS THE WAY
Thomas Guilloteau was the most impressive player for Pacific this season. The freshman went 19-3 on the year at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles, a victory total that led the team. In the NCAA tournament, Guilloteau will be playing No. 2 singles, where he has posted a 3-1 record this season.
Singles
Dietrich Haug: finished the regular season with an 11-9 overall singles record, (10-9 at the No. 1 spot). Honored with a first team All-Big West Conference selection, his first selection.
Alexander Fiedler: was unable to compete for most of the 2000 season because of an injury. Combined for an 8-6 overall record, seeing action at the No.2, 3 and 4 positions. Named to the second team All-Big West Conference.
Thomas Guilloteau: during his first season at Pacific (one of only two true freshmen on the team), led the Tigers with a team best 19-3 record at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions. Saw an 11-match winning streak snapped at #29 Boise State. He is 4-2 against ranked schools.
Tobias Abrahamsson: spent most of his time at the No. 2 position for the Tigers this season, posting an overall record of 13-7. Started the season with a five-match winning streak that was snapped in a three set decision. He won 10 of his first 13 matches for Pacific.
Christian Kauth: during his first season at Pacific, earned a 12-6 overall record, going 9-3 at the No. 5 position. Won seven of his first eight matches.
Niklas Larsson: posted an 8-12 overall record this season, seeing action at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions. Has dropped eight of his last 11 matches.
Doubles
Fiedler/Guilloteau: post a 1-7 record at the No. 1 position.
Abrahamsson/Larsson: named to the All-Big West Second Team for doubles competition. The duo is 9-8 overall this season, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.
Kauth/Haug: currently hold a 6-2 overall record, and are 4-2 this season at the No. 3 spot.
