2000 Golf Awards Banquet Crowns Ryan King MVP

FRESNO, Calif. - The Belmont Country Club played host to almost 70 supporters of the Fresno State golf team yesterday as the 2000 awards banquet honored the Bulldogs for their outstanding golf achievements so far this season, and predicted more success for the athletes to come in the following championship playoff weeks.
Senior Ryan King garnered the Bulldogs' MVP honors for holding the team's lowest season average of 71.48, an average that is in line to break the Fresno State school season lowest average record (set at 71.89). Kind has earned five top-five finishes this season and has also earned ten top-20 finishes in the 11 tournaments played in this year.
Senior Todd Rose, who holds a 71.61 average and is also in a position to break the Fresno State school record for season lowest average, was honored with the Bulldogs' Most Outstanding Player award. Rose was the Bulldogs medallist in the WAC Championship tournament finishing in second place.
Senior Josh Watney was awarded the Bulldogs' Academic Achievement award for his consistent outstanding academic accomplishments. He also earned the Low-Round Award for his 65 in the Western Intercollegiate. Watney is a 1999 Cosida All-American Scholar, a 2000 GTE Academic All-American candidate and a 1999 WAC and three-time Fresno State Scholar Athlete.
Senior Mike Louden took home the Bulldogs' Most Improved award for his consistent contributions and high level of play this season. Louden is the alternate player for the Bulldogs heading into NCAA West Regional tournament.
Senior Danny Paniccia earned the Bulldog Award for being an asset to the succes of the Bulldog team and contributing to every Bulldog team top finish this year. Paniccia earned a season average of 72.3, a score that will break him into the top 10 all-time lowest Bulldogs averages. He had eight top-20 finishes and one top-five finish.
Senior Brandon Lamonica was honored with the Athletic Director's Award for his service and leadership on the Athletic Director's Student Advisory Panel. Lamonica was voted by his peers to serve as the chairman of the committee.
Freshman Nick Watney took home Bulldog Freshman of the Year honors after garnering WAC Freshman of the Year and WAC Player of the Week honors. Watney earned a place in the Bulldogs' lineup with a season average of 73.44 and five top-20 finishes.
Also honored were the four seniors graduating this semester, King (mass communication) Lamonica (business), Louden (economics) and Paniccia (history).
The Bulldogs host the NCAA West Regional next week beginning on May 18 and concluding on May 20 a the Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, Calif. The tournament features 27 teams and six individuals including
