Six Baseballers Earn All-WAC Accolades

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference announced its 2000 all-conference baseball teams on Monday afternoon and six Fresno State players earned postseason honors.
Four Bulldogs -- first baseman Brandon Gemoll (So., San Jose, Calif.), third baseman Nick Garcia (Jr., Lakewood, Calif.), outfielder Anthony Acevedo (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.) and left-handed relief pitcher Hans Smith (Sr., Central Point, Ore.) -- were named to the first team. Fresno State tied with Rice for the most players on the first team. Acevedo was one of only two players who earned first-team accolades for a second consecutive season.
Outfielder Mike Bowlin (Sr., San Jose, Calif.) was the 'Dogs lone representative on the second team and left-handed reliever Mike Hernandez (Fr., Fresno, Calif.) was named the Freshman of the Year. It is the second consecutive season a Bulldog has earned Freshman of the Year honors.
