Bulldogs to compete at NCAA Championships
Seniors Jim Davis and Scott Wenholz will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this
weekend in Durham, N.C. Davis qualified for meet in the pole vault, first at the Modesto
Relays, before improving his mark to 19-0 1/4 at the WAC Championships. Wenholz qualified
for the NCAAs in the decathlon when he scored 7,383 points at the Fresno State Easter
Decathlon. Seniors E.J. Jackson and Nick Paramo both provisionally qualified for the NCAA
Outdoors, but narrowly missed getting into the field this season.
Davis Sets School, WAC Record in Pole Vault
Davis had a day to remember on Saturday at the WAC championships in El Paso, Texas. The
senior set a school and conference record by clearing 19-0 1/2 to take first place, a
height over two feet high than that reached by second place finisher Paramo, who had a
16-11 1/2. For his efforts, Davis was honored with the event's Outstanding Performance
award. His record-setting day at the WAC championships comes on the heels of the Modesto
Relays, in which Davis finished first and set a then-personal best height of 18-2 1/2.
Prior to that height, his personal best was 17-11, cleared at the 1999 WAC championship
meet in a first place effort.
Solid Performances Abound at WAC Meet
But Davis and Paramo were not the only Bulldogs to shine in the pole vault. Wenholz (16-1 3/4)
placed third, Sam Boswell (16-1 3/4) was fourth and Justin Schwartz (13-2 1/4) was fifth. In the
1500 meters, freshman Josh Roddy placed third with a 3:54.69. Phillip Ogilvie and Tim Padilla
finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Josh Alfaro cleared a
personal-best height of 6-7 in the high jump to take fourth. Darnell Hammock recorded a personal-
best time of 21.58 in the prelims of the 200 meters. C.J. Nakayama recorded a PR in the prelims
of the 400 at 46.63, then took fifth place in the finals. Brandon Taylor took fourth in the long
jump by leaping a personal-best 24-5 3/4. Nakayama was right behind him, taking fifth place with
a mark of 24-5 1/2. Chris Uribe placed fourth in the javelin with a personal-best 202-10 and
Shylo Eaton placed fourth in the hammer with a personal-best 182-3. Freshmen Kevin Carano and
Kyle Carano improved their marks in the triple jump. Kevin recorded a mark of 51-2 1/4 and Kyle
earned a mark of 50-7 1/4.
Cal/Nevada Recap

victorious 4x100 relay team. Kyle Carano took second in the triple jump with a mark 49-3 3/4.
Nakayama finished fifth in the 400 meters (48.09) and fourth in the long jump (23-6 1/4). Padilla
