San Francisco Wins Women's Soccer Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. - The Inaugural Fresno State Invitational wrapped up its final day of play by crowning San Francisco the winner this afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. The winner was determined by a goal differential tie-breaker. San Francisco finished the tournament with a record of 2-0 and scored three goals in the process. However, Saint Mary's also finished the tournament with a record of 2-0 and tallied 2 goals. As a result, San Francisco was given the Inaugural Fresno State Invitational trophy. The four teams collectively selected the All-Tournament team, as well as an Attacking Most Valuable Player and Defensive Most Valuable Player. Listed below are the members of the inaugural Fresno State Invitational All-Tournament team and the MVPs.

The final day of the Fresno State Invitational provided for an entertaining afternoon of defensive soccer. Both games went scoreless until the second half of play. San Francisco scored their first goal at the 57-minute mark and exactly 6 minutes later scored their second of the game. Long Beach tried to rally late in the game with a goal in the 87 minute, but were unable to comeback. San Francisco defeated Long Beach State 2-1 in the noon match. The Fresno State, St. Mary's match-up was scoreless until the 80-minute mark when St. Mary's Forward Janice Roux scored the game winner. Saint Mary's defeated Fresno State 1-0. San Francisco and Saint Mary's finished the tournament with a 2-0 record while Fresno state and Long Beach finished with an 0-2 record for the tournament.
