ITHACA, N.Y. -
The Bulldogs shake off the brisk northeast chill to defeat Cornell 1-0.
Fresno State only needed 27 minutes to shake off their jet lag, and get their legs under them. Junior forward Kristi Nicholls (Fresno, Calif.) belted a shot from 25 yards out that bounced off the cross bar straight to the hustling Pearson. Senior forward Jill Pearson (Garden Grove, Calif.) followed the rebound and tucked the ball past the charging Cornell goalkeeper Martha Shaughnessy at the 27-minute mark. Later in the second half sophomore forward Virginia Jenkins (Lompoc, Calif.) drilled a shot from outside the box, but the Cornell goalkeeper denied her of her first goal of the season by making a spectacular diving save.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mary-tyler Wahl (Riverside, Calif.) had 3 saves on 6 Cornell shots for her third straight shutout and her fifth on the season. Cornell forward Alicia Doolittle drilled a shot on goal from the top of the box and the stone Wahl came up with a huge save to preserve the victory for the Bulldogs.
The 'Dog's travel to Colgate on Sunday Sept. 24 to take on the Colgate Red Raiders at noon Eastern time before heading for home.
