Gray Dogs Defeat Blue Dogs 10-7

FRESNO, Calif. - The Gray Dogs take a one game lead in the Inaugural Blue Gray World Series.
In the first inning the Blue Dogs scored one run when sophomore right fielder Christian Hallaian (Fresno, Calif.) hit a single to drive junior second baseman Tom Creighton (Weldon, Calif.) home. The Blue Dogs continued scoring runs in the second. Creighton hit a double to bring home sophomore catcher Dave Hafiz (Woodbury, Minn.) and senior designated hitter Jeff Prieto (Clovis, Calif.). In the third the Grey dogs scored seven runs. Freshman designated hitter Chris Patrick (Fresno, Calif.) drove in the first run with a single the next batter sophomore second baseman Scott Beshears (Fresno, Calif.) hit a single for the send run of the inning. Both senior short stop Josh Labandeira (Porterville, Calif.) and junior first baseman Brandon Gemoll (San Jose, Calif.) drove in two runs to give the Gray Dogs a 7-3 lead. The Blue Dogs responded in the third with one run when Hafiz hit a single to bring Hallaian home. The Gray Dogs continued their scoring spree when Gemoll hit a sacrifice fly to bring Beshears home increasing the Gray Dogs lead to 4 runs. In the fifth the Gray Dogs scored their last two runs when freshman third baseman Casey McGehee (Aptos, Calif.) hit a single to bring junior left fielder Kirk Nylander (Spring Creek. Nev.) home from third. The following batter Labandeira hit a double to bring McGehee home for the Gray Dogs final run of the game. For the Blue Dogs sophomore center fielder Joey Myers (Fresno, Calif.) came off the bench to hit a triple to bring home two runs. Junior right hander Francisco Nieves (Oakland, Calif.) was the winning pitcher for the Gray Dogs and Sophomore right hander Ben Fritz was the losing pitcher for the Blue Dogs.
The Inaugural Blue Gray World Series will continue Monday at 6 p.m.
