Menichini Paces Men's Tennis At Charles Fluitt Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldog freshman Alex Menichini went undefeated in singles action on Saturday during the second day of play at the Charles Fluitt Collegiate Classic in Lexington, Ky.
Menichini, who earned his first collegiate victory Friday, outlasted Reven Stephens of Kentucky 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the morning session and later defeated Tennessee's George Turner 6-3, 6-1.
Senior transfer Sean Cooper bested Kentucky's Gustav Pousette 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and freshman Alex Krohn picked up his first win of the three-day tournament in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-5 (7-3) battle against Justin Kinney of Kentucky. Nick Fustar remains the only Bulldog without a singles victory, losing to Kentucky's Johan Grunditz 6-2, 3-6, 1-6.Senior David Mullins lost 6-2, 5-6, 5-6 (0-7) to Edo Bawono. Fresno State lost both doubles matches against the host Wildcats as well.
The lone bright spot in the Bulldogs afternoon match against No. 3 Tennessee was Menichini's second win of the day. Cooper fell to the Volunteer's Peter Handoyo 6-0, 6-3, Mullins lost to Wade Orr 3-6, default and Krohn was beaten by George Dubrava 6-3, 3-6, 3-6. The doubles team of Cooper and Mullins lost their doubles match 7-8 (5-7) to the Tennessee duo of Andy Crews and Handoyo.
The Bulldogs will square off against Notre Dame Sunday morning in their final match of the preseason tournament. Baylor faces Harvard and Kentucky and Tennessee match up in the other two contests.
