Saint Mary's Notches First Win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Gaels of Saint Mary's defeated the 49ers of Long Beach State 1-0, in the opening match of the First Annual Fresno State Invitational.
The Gaels' lone goal was scored by forward Summer Wilkins early, just three minutes into the match. The score would remain 1-0 for the summation of the match. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Ruth Montgomery recorded her first shutout of the season with two saves on five attempts. Saint Mary's improves its record to 1-3-0, while Long Beach State loses its first of the season, making its record 3-1-1.
The second match of the tournament features the Fresno State Bulldogs versus the University of San Francisco Lady Dons at 7 p.m. The second and final round of competition begins at noon on Sunday, Sept. 10, when the University of San Francisco faces Long Beach State. Fresno State takes the field at 2 p.m. for the final match against Saint Mary's.
