On Wednesday, Fresno State quarterback David Carr made a special visit to chat about his team's bowl hopes, their Saturday matchup with Rice and more.
Carr's Bulldogs (6-2, 2-2) dropped a heartbreaker for the second consecutive week last Saturday. The loss came in the form of a 38-34 defeat at the hands of Hawai'i. Fresno State held a 27-16 lead in the second half, only to have the Warriors score a touchdown with 13 seconds remaining to seal the game.
Carr has thrown for 2,545 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season. He threw for 400 yards and four touchdowns last week in the loss to Hawai'i. He has thrown for over 300 yards in six of the Bulldogs eight games.
Carr was recently nominated for the Walter Camp Award for the Player of the Year. This award is the fourth oldest individual college football award in the country and its recipient is strongly viewed in the college football world as the favorite to capture the Heisman Trophy, awarded in December.

Moderator: (12:11 PM ET )
David Carr: (12:00 PM ET ) I am here and ready to go!!!
phil's friend (Jersey): what happened against Boise St?
David Carr: (12:01 PM ET ) We ran out of time. We were both scoring and we had the chance at the end. You can't win them all, we try though.Chadwick: Why does your coach get so conservative when you get ahead. You clearly are one of the best QB's in college, so he should utilize you for 4 quarters.
David Carr: (12:02 PM ET ) I think maybe at times we want to preserve a win and that might have something to do with it. I just run what I am told so I don't think about it until after the game. Sometimes you want to work the clock so I think that is what they are trying to do.Brady from MD: Are you offended by the horribly low ratings you have on NCAA football 2002 for Playstation 2?
David Carr: (12:03 PM ET ) Very much so. But there is nothing I can do about it!!! We don't get any credit on that game. That is what happnens when you play for Fresno State.
Oxnard, CA (Fresno Grad): One of the things I've noticed in the last two losses is the break-downs on defense. What has happened to Fresno's Tough-Smash-Mouth defense we saw in the first four games? Besides improving defensive play what else do you think the Dogs will have to do to make Pat Hill good on his guarantee to win the next five? GO DOGS . . . I'm pulling for you guys!!!
David Carr: (12:04 PM ET ) We are just facing better offenses. Both Boise and Hawaii are hard teams to shut down. They will score and you have to keep up. We have played good defense and I expect to see that this weekend.phil's brother (New York): What is the biggest threat Rice has?
David Carr: (12:05 PM ET ) Their option on offense. You don't see that every week and you have to prepare extra for that. Their defense we have seen. They will be in the same spot most of the time so you just have to prepare yourself for it.Clif Broughton (Houston): Hey David! - No matter what the situation, you continue to put up awesome numbers across the board. You are sure to be a top if not the top pick in the draft. How do you feel about coming to Houston to play with the Texans. Would you mind starting on a building team or would you prefer a program which is already up and running at full steam?
David Carr: (12:06 PM ET ) I wouldn't' mind that at all. I've spent some time with their coach and their people and I would love to play there. I'm just excited to get the opportunity to play in the NFL. That fires me up.San Juaquin Valley born: This VALLEY is proud to call you one of ours...You've made us all proud to know you. My question is this: Are you made of ICE or something? How do you stay so calm out there during those moments when it seems the game is all in your hands? And lately, it seems like they have all been looking to you to pull the Dogs out of the hole? You're amazing! Love watching you! Go show the country what the "V" stands for.
David Carr: (12:07 PM ET ) I've had a lot of background in my faith in God. He knows what will happen and what will transpire so I just play my best and let the rest take care of itself. But if I was in Fresno and made of ice I wouldn't last too long.
Husker fan: My question is this: Realisticly, how do you think your dogs can compete against teams like Nebraska or Oklahoma. I know you gave Col. a big L in the opener, but do you think your dogs can hold their own against the blackshirts and Hiesman Hopeful Eric Crouch, the reciever, oops I mean the QB.
David Carr: (12:08 PM ET ) I'd like to get the opportunity. Our team steps up to play big teams. We just like to get the chance. There is nothing else you can say about it. I would trade the rest of our five games for one games against those teams.Chris F.: Now that you have 2 losses and seem to be playing at a much lower level then at the beginning of the year. What kinds of things do you look to, for a spark, to start playing the way you had against all the top 25 teams you knocked off?
David Carr: (12:10 PM ET ) Basically we are still in the hunt for our conf. championship. Rice only has one loss so if we put a good showing on them that will get us back on track to win 5. And Coach has guaranteed we will win our next five games so we better put our gamefaces on!Dan Reece(Pekin, IL): What is your greatest assest that is overlooked by most teams?
David Carr: (12:11 PM ET ) Maybe my leadership. I like to think it's my team and I am responsible for keeping them up during the game and keeping everyone focused. When you are up early like we have been sometimes it's easy to get complacent. But that is my job to keep guys focused.funny in fresno: Nice ice line - you're a comedian! What's your son going to be for Halloween?
David Carr: (12:12 PM ET ) He is going to be Simba from Lion King. He is all ready to go!! He doesn't like to wear the hat though!matt (miami): Is Fresno going to get better and stay in the spotlight or is this just a cinderella season that is going to fade away next year?
David Carr: (12:13 PM ET ) I think a lot depends on the group that comes back. We have 15 fifth year seniors so we can handle things. It will depend on the group behind us, the juniors and sophomores, to see how they handle success. I think they can and they will.Chris (Kearney): What made you choose Fresno State?
David Carr: (12:14 PM ET ) I grew up here, in Bakersfield. I watched Trent Dilfer when I was in junior high. They scored a lot of points so it made for interesting games. And I love the atmosphere, it feels like home.Brian (Fort Myers Florida): Hey Dave congrats on a great year. After your team comming out of no where to be all of a sudden in the top 10 do you feel all the added preasure from the media and every one across the country had anything to do w/the last 2 losses?
David Carr: (12:18 PM ET ) I don't think so. We enjoyed it while we were 6-0. The older guys knew how to hanlde it. MAYBE some of the younger guys lost perspective in playing games one at a time. We just have to move on. We have learned how to handle things as a team now. We still haven't finished what we want to do. We have five games left to prove to the country we are for real. Thanks for taking the time to come chat with me today. We plan on finishing this season the way we started .. take care everyone!!
