HONOLULU - Fresno State (7-9, 4-4 WAC) remained winless all-time against Hawai'i (8-9, 5-3 WAC) on the road as they fall 3-1. The Bulldogs applied the pressure early but allowed two goals on Hawai'i's first three shots to fall behind.
Fresno State allowed only five shots in the first half while taking 14 of its own. The Bulldogs came up empty time and again, however.
Jennifer Starsiak and Joelle Sugai of Hawai'i scored the first two goals in the first 25 minutes of action.
Starsiak stole a loose ball in the box area to score the first goal. Sugai fired a 35 yard shot from the left side of the field that floted just over junior goalkeeper Mary-tyler Wahl (Riverside, Calif.).
Senior Aimee Thompson (Simi Valley, Calif.) and sophomore Erin Sayegusa (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way for the Bulldogs combining for 13 shots.
Forward Erin Sayegusa got Fresno State within striking distance at the 63:31 mark as she kicked a deflected shot in the box area. It was her fourth goal of the season and also marked the third straight match in which she has scored.
The deflected shot was taken by sophomore defender Kristyn Kellogg (Atascadero, Calif.) who picked up her first assist of the season.
Hawai'i added an insurance goal at the 88:55 mark to put the match out of reach. Forward Carmel Hurley chased down a long pass through the middle to score Hawai'i's third goal.
It was the second time this season Fresno State has outshot its opponent and lost. The Bulldogs outshot the Rainbow Wahine 22-16.
Up next, Fresno State will head to SMU for the WAC Tournament on Thurs., Nov. 7.
