DENVER - Fresno State quarterback David Carr, SMU safety Shane O'Neill and SMU safety Rico Harris were named the offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Carr, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), completed 21-of-27 passes for a career-high 432 yards and six touchdowns in a 70-21 win over Utah State. In the process, he became the sixth college player to throw for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in a season. His 42 touchdowns are the fifth most in NCAA history and his 4,308 passing yards are the eighth most in NCAA history.
O'Neill, a senior from Humble, Texas (Humble HS), recorded eight tackles (four solo), including one for a six yard loss versus North Carolina. He also intercepted two passes and broke up a third.
Harris, a freshman from Nacogdoches, Texas (Nacogdoches HS), made three tackles on special teams and also forced a fumble that led to a SMU touchdown against North Carolina. The forced fumble came on the opening kickoff of the second half and was recovered at the Tar Heel 12-yard line.
