RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State track and field team competed in the Wolf Pack Invitational, Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, and completed it's second indoor meet of the season. Fresno State competed against seven other teams including Washington State, Oregon, Cal Poly, Cal, Stanford, UCLA and Sacramento State. Numerous men and women recorded personal bests in the all-day competition.
Seventeen women and five men inked personal-bests, including two impressive jumping performances by sophomore Crystal Simmons (Barstow, Calif.) and a one-mile best for sophomore Josh Roddy (Manteca, Calif.). Simmons improved her old mark of 38-9 3/4 in the triple jump by leaping to a season and personal-best 38-11. She also raised the bar in the high jump when she cleared 5-01 3/4, just barely improving from her previous best of 5-01. Roddy finished the one-mile run in 4:17.93, terminating his old time of 4:20.74 and beating his nearest opponent by two seconds exactly. Other highlights from the Bulldogs include a first place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay by the men in 3:20.07. The time was not a season-best, however it was only .07 seconds faster than that of Cal, who finished second. Senior Jynette Grayson-Reed (Stockton, Calif.) made her indoor season debut in the 200-meter with a time of 25.00, placing her third. She also, managed a season-best 56.36 in the 400-meter, a time just over her personal-best of 56.36, while finishing second. For the men, junior Mark Unzueta (Lemoore, Calif.) vaulted to a personal-best 16-06 3/4, overcoming his old height of 16-00 3/4 and landing a third-place finish as well. More top three finishes include sophomore Alex Mason (Alameda, Calif.) in the 800-meter with a second-place run of 1:56.17 and two third-place leaps for junior transfer Kyrah Ayers (Contra Costa JC). Ayers jumped 21-10 3/4 in the long jump and 47-11 in the triple jump.
The Bulldogs look ahead to their next indoor meet on Saturday, Feb. 10, in Reno, Nev. for the Bill Cosby Invitational.
