King’s record jump highlights Bulldogs’ day two at MW Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. - The Fresno State track and field team wrapped up day two of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.
The first podium finisher for Fresno State was junior Jabari King, who finished third in the men's long jump. King had a personal-best jump of 7.78m/25-6.25 on his final attempt, propelling him from fifth place to third late in the competition. King becomes the first Bulldog to medal in the men's long jump since 2014, and his jump was the furthest by a Bulldog since 2008. He currently sits No. 7 all-time.
King's mark sits 11th in the west region, advancing him to the NCAA West First Round. The Fresno native is the first male Bulldog to advance to the NCAA event since 2015.
In the women's long jump, Liz Tarczy picked up some points for the Bulldogs. Tarczy competed in her first long jump championship event, placing sixth. The junior hit a 6.00m/19-8.25 mark, reaching the six meter mark for the first time.
Rhiannon Walker placed 11th in the women's 3,000m steeplechase final, clocking a time of 10:57.15.
