FRESNO, Calif.- No. 29 Fresno State women's tennis recorded its third 4-3 victory of the season Monday afternoon, defeating No. 44 Kansas State at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (10-2), who are 5-2 against opponents ranked in the top-45 nationally, have now won three in a row and eight of their last nine matches. Kansas State is now 5-6.
Fresno State opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches en route to winning the doubles point. The Bulldogs have now won the doubles point in seven of their twelve matches.
All-American junior Kim Niggemeyer improved her dual-match record to 10-1 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kansas State's Alena Jecminkova at No. 1 singles. Senior Liesl Fichtbauer won her 20th match of the season when she scored a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot and junior Ewa Grusiecka snapped a three-match losing streak with a clutch 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 54 spot.
The Bulldogs will perhaps face their toughest test of the season on Wednesday, when they host No. 8 Northwestern (13-2) at home at 1 p.m.
