Track and field student-athletes, seniors Ryan Beckenhauer (Reedley, Calif.) and Jynette Grayson-Reed (Stockton, Calif.), were honored as the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the week for their performances at Sacramento State on Saturday, March 24, 2001.
Beckenhauer led the Bulldogs to first place at the meet, with two first place finishes of his own. He dominated in both the shot put and discus events. He threw a distance of 56-8 1/2 in the shot put to set a Sacramento State field record, erasing the old record of 56-6. Beckenhauer then cleared 156-3 in the discus.
Grayson-Reed earned the women's honor with two personal-best performances in the 200 and 400 meters, en route to the team's first place capture. She clocked a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400 with a time of 53.60, also good for a first place finish. She then crossed the line in the 200 in second place at 24.47.
The Bulldogs set the stage for their first home meet of the season this Saturday, March 31, at Warmerdam Field. The throwing events will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m.
