Men's Tennis Drops to No. 24 in Latest Rankings

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team rose to No. 8 while the men's team dropped to No. 24 in the latest WingspanBank.com collegiate tennis rankings, released today.
The women's team's No. 8 ranking represents the highest in program history, surpassing the previous high of No. 9, established in last week's rankings. The Bulldogs have knocked off No. 10 Northwestern, No. 13 Washington, No. 15 South Alabama, No. 21 Pepperdine and No. 33 Iowa this season. Fresno State (13-3) has a three-match road trip on the docket this week, taking on No. 65 UNLV today, Utah on Friday and No. 31 BYU on Saturday.
The men's team (12-7) dropped one spot from No. 23 to No. 24. The Bulldogs, who have not played since defeating No. 34 South Florida on March 31, return to action Saturday when they travel to play Boise State.
The latest individual rankings, released April 6, sport several Bulldogs ranked among the very best players in the nation. On the women's side, Kim Niggemeyer (19-7, 12-3 dual) is ranked No. 31 while Liesl Fichtbauer (24-5, 13-3 dual) is No. 36. In doubles, the team of Niggemeyer and Simone Jardim (18-3, 13-2 dual) are the seventh-ranked duo in the nation.
For the men, Peter Luczak's 19-0 record is good enough to place him No. 8 in the nation. The senior is only five singles victories away from breaking Bryan Juinio's all-time program record of 105 wins. Luczak, along with David Mullins, also forms the No. 9-ranked doubles team in the country. Also ranked in doubles for the Bulldogs is the team of Sean Cooper and Nick Fustar, who are 31st.
