Golf Struggles in Arizona

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State is in 20th place after the first two rounds at the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational hosted at the Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,027 yards) in Tempe, Ariz. Friday.
The Bulldogs scored 299-292-591 placing them just behind Oregon State. Texas leads the tournament with a score of 554 and USC in second at 559. Leading the individual standings is Kevin Stadler from USC with his score of 68-67-135.
Leading the `Dogs in a tie for 32nd place is junior Jonathon Echols. Echols had a strong shot with a first-round score of 69, but jumped to a 74 in round two for a total 143.
Two Bulldogs sit amongst a nine-player tie for 60th. Sophomore Nick Watney had a slow start with a 78 but came back strong with a second round 68 for a 146. Junior Dustin Smith also finished with 146 after shooting 72-74.
Freshman Chad Spencer stands at 108 after shooting 80-76-156. Topping off the Bulldog lineup is sophomore Daniel Timmons who shot 80-79-159 placing him at T110.
Play will resume on Saturday for the third and final round. The teams will face a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
