FRESNO, Calif. -- No. 23 Fresno State men's tennis team recorded its fourth shutout of the season Thursday afternoon, handing the Santa Clara Broncos their first home loss of the season in a 7-0 victory. The Bulldogs are now 14-7, while the Broncos fall to 11-8.
The match was delayed 90 minutes due to inclement weather and to avoid possible rain later on in the day, singles was played first. Fresno State took all six singles, five of which went straight sets. Highlighting single play was senior Peter Luczak, ranked No. 13 nationally, winning his match against Ryan Livesay at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2. Luczak is now 21-0 on the season and needs only three singles wins to break the all-time mark of 105 held by Bryan Juinio.
Even though the match was already decided, the teams agreed to play doubles. The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point, winning matches at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots.
Fresno State's final match of the regular season will be Saturday afternoon at home, where the Bulldogs will host Pacific at 1 p.m. Senior day festivities will be held to honor Fresno State's three seniors: Luczak, Sean Cooper and David Mullins.
