Women's Basketball Adds Another to Recruiting Class

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball recruiting class grew to seven today with the signing of a letter of intent by Lauren Stayton (Inglewood, Calif./Rolling Hills Prep).
Stayton, a 5-foot 9-inch guard, averaged 20.0 points, 9.4 assists and 8.4 rebounds per game for Rolling Hills last year. She was named most valuable player of the St. Anthony's tournament and to the All-CIF first team.
Stayton joins the other six players Fresno State signed to national letters of intent in the early signing period to form the 2001-02 freshman class. Cophie Moore (Arlington, Texas), a 5-foot 10-inch guard/forward, Joanna Barnes (Washington, D.C.), a 5-foot 10-inch two-guard, Arrita Lane (Alea, Hawaii), a 6-foot forward, Lisa Copeland (Orchard Lake, Mich.), a 5-foot 10-inch power forward, Veronica Mack (Phoenix, Ariz.), a 5-foot 6-inch guard, and Barbara Johnson (Bakersfield, Calif.), a 6-foot 2-inch forward, all signed to play for the Bulldogs beginning in the 2001-02 season.
The recruiting class was recently rated the 53rd best in the nation by the Women's Basketball Journal.
