#16 Softball Completes Tripleheader Sweep Over Portland State

FRESNO, Calif. - #16 Fresno State (38-17, 13-3 WAC) completed its three-game series win over Portland State with a 5-0 victory in the third game of the day at Bulldog Diamond.
The Bulldogs, who scored five runs on 11 hits, put a run on the board in the first, three in the third and added another run in the fifth for their 26th shutout win on the season.
Becky Witt moved into the NCAA's Top 10 in career hits after collecting six hits in the tripleheader against PSU. Witt is tied with former Bulldog standout Martha Noffsinger-O'Kelley at the No. 10 spot with 327 career hits. In addition, Witt is also tied with Noffsingler-O'Kelley at the No. 3 spot in school history in career hits.
Witt batted .545 (6-11) with five runs in the three-game match up against the Vikings as she is now hitting .398 (72-181) on the year.
Four Bulldogs had multiple-hit performances in Witt (2-5, run), Lindsay Fossatti (3-4, 3 RBI), Pam Perez (2-4, run) and Alicia Dowland (2-4, run).
Bulldog pitcher Lindsay Foster went the distance in the finale and tossed a two-hitter and struck out five to improve to 5-2 on the year. It also was Foster's third shutout win.
Viking pitcher Nichole Ivie took the loss and fell to 5-15 overall as she went the distance by giving up 11 hits, five runs, four walks and had one strikeout.
Fresno State softball will be idle next week. The Bulldogs close out their regular-season in two weeks when it travels to Tulsa for a four-game series against the Golden Hurricane in Western Athletic Conference action, May 11-12.
