FRESNO, Calif. -- Senior Peter Luczak is one of three Bulldog tennis players that earned a national singles ranking in the latest edition of the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings issued on Friday.
Luczak, the only men's player to receive a ranking, moved from No. 15 to the No. 8 spot in the country. The Melbourne, Australia, native is 19-0 overall this season and is now only five singles wins away from breaking the all-time mark of 105 held by Bryan Juinio. The men's squad (12-7) has three regular season matches left on their schedule before they are slated to host WAC Championships April 26-29.
All-American junior Kim Niggemeyer was awarded the No. 31 singles ranking, while teammate Liesl Fichtbauer is currently ranked No. 36 for the women (12-3). Niggemeyer is 18-7 overall and 11-3 in dual match play. Fichtbauer, the lone senior on the women's team, leads the team in victories with a 23-5 overall record and holds a 12-3 dual match mark.
The men's team has two of their three doubles teams ranked in the top-50. The senior duo of Luczak and David Mullins are ranked No. 9 in the nation, as they are currently 10-2 overall. Senior Sean Cooper and junior Nick Fustar represent the other nationally ranked tandem for the Bulldogs, holding the No. 31 spot.
For the women, Fresno State's team of Niggemeyer and junior Simone Jardim are ranked No. 7. The duo is 18-2 overall, and 13-1 in dual match competition.
The No. 9 ranked women's team will face No. 18 Pepperdine tomorrow in Malibu, Calif., while the No. 23 ranked men's squad will not play a match until their Apr. 14 contest with Boise State.
