Golf Drops One Place in WAC Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State is in fifth at the 2001 Western Athletic Conference Championships being hosted at the par-72 Forest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla. after round two on Tuesday.
SMU slipped past the Bulldogs today underscoring them by eight shots with their 300 total. Tulsa also took the lead from TCU after shooting a 294 giving them a 587 to the Horned Frogs 591. Other District 7 teams Hawai'i and Nevada are behind the `Dogs. Hawai'i is in sixth with 608 and Nevada is in seventh with 611.
Tulsa and TCU also lead individually. Tulsa's David Inglis and Scott Volpitto are tied at a 1-under 143. Sophomore Nick Watney dropped to a tie for third after struggling with a 77 today for 147 total.
The `Dogs still have two other golfers in the top-25. Junior Jonathon Echols shot 76 today to give him a 148 (+4) and a tie for seventh place. Fellow junior Dustin Smith, like Watney, shot a 77 holding his T21 spot with 153 total. Finishing off the Bulldog lineup, senior Wes Lovell shot a 78 for 161 total and sophomore Daniel Timmons shot 82 for 163 total and 44th place.
The final 18 holes of the tournament will begin Wednesday at 8 a.m.
