Track and Field Completes Regular Season at Modesto Relays

The Fresno State track and field team competed in their final regular season meet of the season at the 60th Annual Modesto Relays in Modesto, Calif., on Saturday, May 12.
On the women's side, senior Jynette Grayson-Reed topped all performances with her second place time of 54.29 in the 400-meter dash. Other top ten performances included the 4 x 100-meter relay, 200-meter dash, hammer throw, shot put and long jump. In the relay, the squad clocked a 46.88 en route to a third place capture. Freshman Katie Christianson kicked out a 25.02 in the 200, while crossing in ninth place. Her time was a personal-best as she improved from her previous best of 25.27. Sophomore Jamie Farley notched a seventh place rank in the hammer with her throw of 162-6, while freshman teammate Krissy Schelir inked ninth at 147-5. Schelir also went on to earn seventh in the shot put with a toss of 43-7 1/2. Sophomore Crystal Simmons inked 10th in the long jump after her effort of 17-6 1/2.
For the men, junior Roosevelt Cook and sophomore Moses Avila notched the day's best performances as they captured first and second places in the mile. The two Bulldogs went solo in the event as they were the only entrants in the four-lap race. Cook finished in 4:20.47, while Avila trailed at 4:29.19. Other top ten performances included the 200, 100-meter dash, 400, 400 hurdles, pole vault and triple jump. Freshman Chad Seiler clocked 21.75 in the 200, for a fifth place rank and kicked out a 10.87 for eighth place in the 100. Junior Gabe Orosco notched sixth in the 400 at 50.01, while senior Donell Wickett finished the 400 hurdles in tenth place with a time of 57.26. Junior Mark Unzueta vaulted 16-4 3/4 to finish ninth overall. Rounding out the performances were Kevin and Kyle Carano with their sixth and eighth place spots in the triple jump. Kevin marked 47-10, while Kyle landed at 46-2 1/2.
Both the men and the women finished the season with three team first place finishes, sweeping all dual-meets, and now look ahead towards the 2001 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The four-day competition will be held in Fresno, Calif., at Fresno State, beginning Wednesday, May 16 and concluding Saturday, May 19.
