Luczak Named ITA National Player of the Year

FRESNO, Calif. -- Peter Luczak was named as the 2001 Ted A. Farnsworth/ITA National Senior Player of the Year award winner Wednesday morning by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Luczak, the Farnsworth/ITA National Senior Player of the Year and John Van Nostrand Memorial Award winner, is the nation's only unbeaten player at 27-0 this season. He is currently ranked No. 3 in the latest WingspanBank.com national singles rankings and was an All-WAC singles first-team selection. The Melboune, Australia, native was named the ITA National Player of the Month for April and also broke the Fresno State record for career singles wins.
The Van Nostrand Award is a stipend given to the outstanding senior who plans to pursue a professional tennis career.
Luczak will begin his quest for the national singles title tomorrow when he squares off against Mark Parsons of Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championships in Athens, Ga. Luczak is the tournament's No. 4 overall seed.
